artists in demand retreat
Set in the heart of Chiang Mai, Thailand the Artists in Demand Retreat brings out and proud artists together for inspiring workshops, meaningful conversations and peer-led collaboration designed to strengthen and sustain global queer art.
Artists in Demand Retreat in Thailand invites artists into a space where inspiration feels effortless and connection feels inevitable. Long regarded as a sanctuary for artists, Chiang Mai is an artists paradise from intricate handicrafts and contemporary galleries to centuries-old creative traditions, the city itself becomes a backdrop and collaborator.
Artists gather to focus on art, film and food. They come not only to showcase their work, but to deepen it. Through conversations, workshops and artist-to-artist exchanges, participants explore new perspectives, challenge ideas and spark collaborations that extend far beyond the retreat.
The retreat workshops, panels and round table discussions are led by LGBTQ+ artists, for LGBTQ+ artists—creating space for peer-driven knowledge sharing around navigating visibility and safety, sustaining creative careers, accessing funding, storytelling, representation and building inclusive communities. These conversations are real, transparent and solutions-oriented, strengthening the global ecosystem for out and proud artists.
The retreat is enriched by Thailand’s cultural vibrancy. Shared art experiences with local artists, meals, local encounters and immersive moments invite participants to engage with fellow artists while supporting the local gayborhood. In a time when queer creative voices are more vital than ever, this gathering is a space for artists to feel seen, supported and inspired while exploring how we sustain and elevate queer artistry across borders.
Through thoughtfully curated cultural experiences, shared meals, art experiences and meaningful connections, attendees build lasting relationships with fellow artists from around the world, forming a chosen family rooted in art and queer joy.
The retreat culminates in the Yi Peng Lantern Festival, where thousands of lanterns rise into the night sky in an expression of hope and renewal. The retreat creates a convergence of art, culture, friendship and community.
